The bowl is potted with a flared mouth, an angled waist, sloping sides tapering towards the lower body, and a ring foot. The exterior is densely decorated in famille rose enamels with peonies, chrysanthemums, camellias, morning glories, lotus, peonies, lilies and other flowers. The entire surface is filled with blossoms, leaving neither stems visible nor the ground glaze exposed, with no empty space remaining. For this reason, the design is known as “hundred flowers on an unexposed ground” (baihua bulu di).

The enamels are richly varied and brilliantly coloured, displaying the splendour characteristic of Qianlong imperial famille rose porcelain. The base is covered with a turquoise-green glaze, and the centre is inscribed in underglaze blue with the six-character seal-script mark in three vertical lines: “Da Qing Qianlong nian zhi” — “Made in the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing dynasty.”
