The dish is potted with a flared mouth, shallow sides and a ring foot. It is covered overall with a white glaze. The centre is painted with a single iron-red circle enclosing a design of the God of Longevity with blessings and emolument: Shoulao and a deer are shown walking across waves, the deity leaning against the deer. The exterior is decorated with a scene of the Eight Immortals offering birthday felicitations.
The base is inscribed in underglaze blue with the six-character mark in three vertical lines: “Da Qing Qianlong nian zhi” — “Made in the Qianlong reign of the Great Qing dynasty.” Finely and skilfully made, the dish is decorated throughout with motifs related to birthday celebration and longevity, conveying auspicious wishes.
